This course focuses on the principles, development, and utilization of conventional assessment tools to improve teaching and learning. It specifically ventures into the Assessment of Cognitive Learning among K-12 students across learning areas. It allows pre-service teachers to follow the standard steps in test construction, including planning, development, and evaluation of test results. Applications, practices, and standards in assessing cognitive learning in the Elementary and Secondary Schools of the Department of Education in the Philippines are tackled to prepare pre-service teachers for future professional work. Non-conventional and authentic assessment principles are introduced in the last part of the course as pre-synthesis to Assessment in Learning 2.
